My first visit to Tinkers Restaurant was quite a special experience, the welcome from Jay and his staff was one of great warmth.

Our table on the upper level had a great view overlooking Lord Street and the ambience was delightful and relaxed

The young team were friendly and efficient and we were looked after by Louise who attended to our every need. She showed genuine interest in the food that we selected and was delighted that we were so pleased with our choices.

The menu was varied and interesting and we were totally spoilt or choice, the theme of the food is "Comfort food with elegance" and it certainly lived up to that description.

Our starters were stunningly presented, the three scallops were served in the shells on a bed of curried parsnip purée topped with pancetta and pistachio they were divine.

After a much needed rest we chose Tinkers lamb three ways which consisted of, lamb rump sliced on a bed of sprouting broccoli, marinaded lamb cutlet, and lamb hotpot which arrived in the tiniest copper pan. The lamb cutlet was cooked to perfection being pink in the middle, the depth of flavour of the hotpot was unctuous .

The dessert menu was sooo tempting that we couldn't make a decision so we were served a selection to share. The deep fried jam butty served with vanilla scented clotted ice cream and strawberry salad was to die for. Rhubarb and custard scented creme brûlée was out of this world and the white chocolate and vanilla cheesecake was just yummy.

All in all it was a great experience and I can see why Jay is a true "Masterchef" and I feel sure he will go from strength to strength. He describes his food a "Comfort food with elegance" and I certainly endorse that description.

We will certainly visit again, maybe next time at lunchtime.
